Since the advent of electronic publishing (and the .epub) format, traditional authors have searched for a way to enter the eBook market. While devices like the Kindle, Nook, and even the iPhone and iPad have made it easy for primarily text-based books to have a presence, authors of more graphics-heavy titles have been left in the cold.Apple is ready to change all that with their new version of iBooks. While the initial launch of iBooks is aimed at the textbook market, the potential for graphics-heavy traditional books is very high. Using the free iBooks Author software, it’s now possible to create fully interactive, graphics-rich content that can be sold through the iBooks store. While the new iBooks system doesn’t fit very well into current workflows (it can only import Word and Pages files), I fully expect it to become compatible with InDesign on some level, at some point. Still, the additional workload to convert your traditional publications to iBooks format may well be worth your time. A recent survey (link) found that over the 2011 Christmas holiday, tablet and e-book users doubled. With Apple reporting record sales and with the new iPad expected any time now, 2012 may well be the year of the ‘real’ ebook.Zaxyn Media is currently working with several partners on iBooks2 initiatives. We’re hoping to have several titles in the iBooks store by the middle of 2012.

This report from Yudu shows how important tablets will be to every business in the next five years. Read on to see what this could mean for your bottom line!
Just read the Yudu iPad Trends & Stats for November, 2011. Yudu is a leader in developing iPad and tablet based publications, so they have some pretty good insight into the future of these devices.
Yudu cites several sources that show that Apples iPad table will continue to lead the pack in the coming years, with over 80% of the market share in some cases. While other tablets (such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab) will continue to sell well, they are not expected to touch Apples dominance in the market.
After using the Joomla! & VirtueMart system for over 2 years, the ToytecLifts.com site was in dire need of a facelift. Since the Joomla! system separates the content from the style, it was trivial to create an entire new look and feel for the site.Click Image for Larger Version
Other improvements included enhanced navigation to support a growing product line, fully integrated analytics and statistics packages, and click tracking. Overall Toytec has increased sales an average of 39% per month since the new design was deployed.
I took over a barely working Content Management System (CMS) website for Toytec Lifts and within 3 weeks drastically improved their website e-commerce process. I successfully integrated their online shopping cart software (Virtuemart) with their Quickbooks and shipping solutions. This allows Toytec to automatically import all shopping cart transactions into Quickbooks and UPS Worldship software for much faster processing. I eliminated several redundant tasks and greatly improved efficiency.
Zaxyn was able to partner with BudBuilt.com to redesign their website and create an all new eCommerce shopping cart system. By using the open source Joomla! and VirtueMart applications, costs for the new system were minimal while providing a very exciting user experience. The old system strickly used PayPal as the payment method, and was very tedious to update. Now the team at BudBuilt can focus on being more productive without the website holding them back.
Using the power of Joomla! Content Management System, excellent graphic design, and an amazing product line. Zaxyn partnered with FunTreks Publishing to revise their website while maintaining their legacy eCommerce system. We were able to create an easy to use web presence that allows FunTreks to update the site from anywhere, even on the trail!
